Surah Yasin was revealed in Mecca period as 83 verses. The surah takes its name from the letters "Yâ-Sîn" in the first verse. Surah Yasin is considered the greatest surah of the Holy Qur'an and the heart of the Qur'an.

Our Prophet said, "Yasin is the heart of the Qur'an. Whoever reads Yasin by desiring Allah and the Hereafter, his past sins will be forgiven. Read it to your dead." Because of the sentence "Read it to your dead" in this hadith, in general, Surah Yasin is mostly read to our dead today. During the Mevlits held on the 1st, 7th, and 52nd days for our dead, the Yasin Surah is mostly read.
